MerchDigger — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 12, 2026 · Applies to the MerchDigger browser extension
The short version
MerchDigger is local-first. Your sales, product, and advertising data never leaves your browser. We do not run servers that receive your data, we do not collect analytics, and we cannot see anything about your business.
What the extension accesses
MerchDigger reads data from websites you are already signed in to, on your behalf and only inside your own browser:
- merch.amazon.com — your sales history, product catalog, prices, and account limits, to build your dashboard and analytics.
- advertising.amazon.com — your own advertising spend and performance reports, to show profit after ad spend.
All of this data is stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB and extension storage) on your device. It is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
Optional features that contact external services
- Currency conversion — the extension fetches public exchange rates from api.frankfurter.app. No personal or business data is sent; it is a plain rates lookup.
- AI Business Analyst (opt-in, off by default) — if you choose to enable it, you provide your own API key for Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic. When you run an analysis, a compact numeric summary of your dashboard (totals, trends, product titles/ASINs — never your name, email, or account identifiers) is sent directly from your browser to the provider you selected, using your key. Your key is stored only in your browser and is sent only to that provider. We never see your key or your data. You can remove the key at any time in Settings.
What we collect
Nothing. The extension has no account system, no sign-up, no telemetry, no analytics beacons, and no crash reporting. We do not sell, share, or monetize any data — we never have it in the first place.
Permissions explained
- storage / unlimited local data — keeps your sales cache and product catalog on your device so the dashboard loads instantly.
- notifications — shows the optional "new sale" desktop notification you can toggle in Settings.
- webRequest / declarativeNetRequest / offscreen — used strictly to read your own Amazon Advertising reports within your logged-in session (read-only; nothing is modified or transmitted elsewhere).
Data retention & deletion
Everything lives in your browser profile. Uninstalling the extension (or clearing site data) permanently deletes all cached data and any saved settings, including your AI API key.
